Injured dad tries crafting, creates nightmare fuel

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (FTN) – A Terre Haute dad says he tried his hand at crafting with his family…and may have accidentally scarred his three-year-old in the process.

It happened on Tuesday evening.

36-year-old Chris Essex was ordered to spend two weeks on crutches after a foot injury.

“A lot of video games…and stationary activities,” Chris said.

On Tuesday, Chris, along with his wife Ami and three-year-old Alex started playing PlayDoh and messing around with some of Ami’s crafting items.

“I was trying to be creative. So at first, I used some of the crafting items to makes eyes and a mouth on a ball of PlayDoh…I was pretty proud of myself…so I moved on to using Mr. Potato Head parts…super creative,” Chris said.

Ami said it was not creative.

“They were scary…like, I have night terrors…I feel like these are the kinds of things I see in my night terrors….but then he asked for my hot glue gun,” Ami said,

Chris reportedly saw crafting style popsicle sticks…and tried to recreate Stick Stickly, from the classic Nickelodeon afternoon block of shows, based on memory.

“I guess I thought he had a shirt…he didn’t. He was way more basic than I remember,” Chris said.

The results ended with Alex throwing the crafty stick, aiming for the dog’s water bowl.

“Oh…and I had this grand vision to make a house out of popsicle sticks. But I ran out of popsicle sticks…so it ended up making a really weak railroad bridge…it broke in a couple of minutes,” Chris said.

When FTN showed Alex photos of the crafting, he looked at them, he refused to comment.
