TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (KNN) – A pair of Vigo County parents say they are both proud and annoyed by their four-year-old son as he begins to take the next steps of potty training.
Chris and Ami Essex say their son Alex has been peeing in the potty for a while now, but he still uses sleep diapers when he goes to bed.
Now, Alex is starting to wake up at times to use the bathroom, and his parents say they are tired.
“So, he wants help. We want to help him…but at 4:00 a.m., that’s a lot of work. I’ve never been so proud and annoyed at the same time,” Chris told us.
Alex wakes his parents up so they can help him with his sleep diaper. He’s not used to wearing one, so he needs help pulling it down and back up.
“He still pees in his diaper at night, but I would say around 25 percent of the time he’s waking up. I’ll call that a great start,” Ami said.
Both parents say they are careful to make sure they encourage Alex and make sure he knows they are proud of his efforts, and not angry or annoyed.
