VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (KNN) – Parents Chris and Ami Essex say they regret the decision to skip their four-year-old son Alex’s nap.
This is after a 4:30 p.m. over tired mix of meltdown and happiness triggered by trains and pizza.
Parents say he went from crazy laughter to a crying tantrum in a matter of seconds.
“Ami asked me around 11:30 this morning if I thought he needed a nap. I said no. We should have had him take a nap,” Chris told us.
Chris and Ami realized their mistake around 2:00 when the family made a trip to the store. He was so tired then, but it was way too late for a nap.
“The point of no return for a nap is usually 1:00. After that we push for an early bedtime,” Ami told us.
While the family was playing with trains and eating pizza, Alex went into a meltdown over his trains derailing, and then laugh as soon as they get moving again. Right after that, Alex reportedly asked what he was mad about.
Parents originally thought Alex woke up around 7:30, which is a little later than usual. But now, they say they aren’t sure what time he actually woke up.
“I got up for work around 7:30 to make coffee and get ready for work. He was playing with his trains. He might have been up way earlier now that I’m thinking about it,” Ami told us.
Alex told us he plans to take a nap “tomorrow after his nap.”
