Local four year charged after DOP finds counterfeit money, LEGO in cash register

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (KNN) – A Vigo County four-year-old is facing time-out time after the Department of Parenting says he was busted with funny money inside of his business cash register.

Parents started an investigation into Alex Essex weeks ago, when a witness says he was cutting printed, undersized currency.

DOP officials say the money is about one fourth the size of actual money and appeared to be printed on standard printer paper.

Alex recently opened a store he calls ‘Two or 98.’ The store sold every item at either $2 or $98.

The money was found inside of a Mickey Mouse cash register Alex keeps on a shelf in his bedroom.

Alex denies the allegations, saying the money was given to him.

“Mommy made the money for me. I used change for two bucks,” Alex told us.

Also in the register was a Ducky and Bunny sticker, from Toy Story 4 and sever LEGO bricks.

The DOP is investigating if the LEGO bricks are authentic, or an off brand.

It was not immediately clear if the sticker is connected to a separate crime.

In a statement, the Department of Parenting said it can not comment on active investigations.

Alex could face over 15 minutes of time-out if he is convicted of trying to pass the counterfeit currency.

The DOP asks anyone with information leave a comment below.
