TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (KNN) – A newly obtained Department of Parenting document points to a Tuesday morning incident in a southern Vigo County home.
KNN first learned of the incident only described by our anonymous source as the “Kitchen Incident” on Wednesday.
Our source says it involved three-year-old Alex Essex – but would not elaborate further because they had a fear of retaliation.

KNN used FOIA to ask for the DOP documents. We received a heavily redacted document confirming something did happen – but much of the information was blacked out.
We asked DOP spokesperson Chris Essex for more information. Essex said in a written statement: “We are working to ensure the safety and well being of our son, Alex. We act in his best interest. The Department of Parenting has no further comment.”
Our source told KNN there are photos to accompany the report…these photos were not included when we received the DOP document.
We do know the ‘Kitchen Incident’ happened around 7:30 Tuesday morning. Chris Essex, from the DOP heard something that woke him up and when he walked into the kitchen he found his son.
KNN is still working to learn more information, As soon as we do – we will pass that along to you.
