VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (KNN) – A Terre Haute mom said she nearly had a meltdown after her three-year-old woke her up at 4:00 a.m. to a mess.
It happened on Friday night in southern Vigo County.
Ami Essex told KNN her son, Alex, allegedly woke up in the middle of the night and decided to play with things on the countertop. She told us one of those things was a melted wax melt.
“So, we usually keep a wax melt going when we are at home. Chris or I must have forgotten to turn it off the night before when Alex woke me at 4:00…it was all over the kitchen,” Ami said.
She went on to say Alex was ready for action.
“So I was scraping wax melt off the floor and he was ready for breakfast…and I was like…nope. It’s way too early for that. I made his butt go back to bed, I used full mom voice. He knew I wasn’t playing,” Ami told us.
Both Chris and Ami Essex say Alex is going through a big independent stage. They think he may have been trying to do dishes.
“First of all…yes. My three-year-old is tall enough to reach something on the back of the counter and he’s tall enough to think he’s doing dishes,” Ami said. “But I think that because the dish brush was covered in melted wax…so I think he was trying to clean the little wax melt holder thing.”
Without seeing how it went down, parents say Alex did not receive any time out time but say they plan to be more careful about the wax melt moving forward.
