Roles reversed: Three-year-old works to heal hurt mom

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (FTN) – A local mom that recently underwent a surgery is now under the care of her three-year-old son.

On Monday, Ami Essex was had surgery for an issue related to her stomach. Now, her son Alex is using all of the doctor tools he has learned in his short life to care for his mom.

“It has been painful to walk. We explained to Alex that I am fragile, and don’t feel very well,” Ami said.

Ami and her husband Chris said they were a little nervous about how Alex would react.

“He’s not mean…but there’s always the chance for accidents…but Alex has been so sweet with her,” Chris told us.

On Thursday, Alex did about the only thing he knows how to do when someone doesn’t feel well.

“When he is sick, we are always taking his temperature with a forehead thermometer. We tell him it is a way for us to check on him to make him feel better,” Ami said.

Both parents say Alex started rubbing the thermometer on Ami’s head saying “make mommy feel better.”

Chris said he couldn’t handle that level of cuteness.

“Oh my god. It was the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen him do…so cute,” Chris said.

Ami told us she is starting to feel better and hopes to be fully healed soon.
